Trip to Rome 2019

The second learning trip to Rome (fourth mobility of the project) took place from 23rd to 30th March, 2019. The main topic was Renaissance and Barroque ages.  These are the visits and activities the students and teachers did.


Saturday 23rd March

 

Arrival in Rome

Spanish students and teachers arrived in Rome on Saturday 23rd at 23:00. It was late but the Italian students were really enthusiastic!

Sunday 24th March

 

Sunday with families

 

The Spanish students spent Sunday with the Italian students and their families. They visited different places and some of them went to the beach to have a bath!

 


Monday 25th March

Welcome breakfast in Montezemolo

 

The Spanish students of 1st ESO had a breakfast prepared by the Italian families in ICS Montezemolo

 

Welcome breakfast in IIS Via delle Sette Chiese

 

The students of 1st Bachillerato of IES Punta del Verde also had their breakfast at school.

Barroque route in the city centre

 

The students and teachers of the three schools had a tour visiting several Barroque churches and monuments during the morning. They also had a Treasure Hunt activity. They visited Basilica Sant'Agostino, San Luigi dei Francesi and Sant'Ignazio di Loyola and  Piazza Navona.


Tuesday 26th March

 

Vatican museums

 

On Tuesday the three schools visited Vatican city during the whole morning.  1st ESO students  of IES Punta del Verde and Montezemolo went to the Vatican museums while the students of 1st Bachillerato and Sette Chiese went to Vatican gardens before following them.

 

Visiting Saint Peter's basilica

 

The three schools visited Saint Peter  and even though it was raining, the day was wonderful because of the works of art they could enjoy.


Wednesday 27th March

Tour around Renaissance and Barroque Rome

 

On this day they visited again the city centre, but this time to see the most popular monuments of Rome. They started at Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michel Angelo Buonarrotti and continued to Fontana di Trevi, Piazza di Spagna and Piazza del Popolo, where they could see the church Santa Maria del Popolo with its paintings by  Caravaggio

Some Spanish students were taught how to make gnocchi by a Montezemolo student's father who is a chef.


Thursday 28th March

 

Visit to the Gianicolo

 

On this day the students and teachers of the three schools visited the Tempietto di Bramante inside the Academia di Spagna in the Gianicolo Hill. They also visited the church and the square of San Pietro in Montorio.

 

 

Monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi

 

On top of Gianicolo they could visit the monument to the man who had the most important part on the unification of Italy.

 

Fontana dell'Acqua Paola

 

It is a big marble fountain beside the terrace of the residence of the ambassador of Spain. From this place they could see an awesome view of the city.

 

Trastevere

 

After the visit to the Gianicolo, students and teachers had a walk through the Trastevere quarter, one of the most popular in Rome. They also visited Santa Cecilia church 

 

Rehearsal at San Paolo Theatre

 

In the afternoon they had a rehearsal of the play "Much Ado About Nothing which would be performed the next day

Il Giudizio Universale

 

In the evening, teachers and students of 1st ESO of IES Punta del Verde together with the Italian members of ICS Montezemolo and their families were invited to this show which tells the story of the paintings in the Sistine Chapel. It was performed in the Vatican  auditorium.


Friday 29th March

 

Working on scale models planning

During the morning, the students of ICS Montezemolo showed the Spanish students of 1st ESO how to design scale models with the software they have learnt.

 

Visit to San Paolo Basilica

 

While the youngest did their activity, the students of 1st Bachillerato of IES Punta del Verde and IIS Sette chiese visited San Paolo basilica, the biggest church in Rome after Saint Peter.

 

Performance of the play

 

After a new rehearsal and having lunch all together in a park, they started the last activities of the project at 3:00 with the performance of the play "Much ado about nothing", adapted from Shakespeare's play.

 

Cultural contest

 

After the performance it took place the cultural contest for the students of 1st bachillerato of IES Punta del Verde. These were the winners

Prize giving

 

After the contest the winners of all the competitions, contest and treasure hunts, were given their prizes. There was also a ceremony with the students participants in the previous year.

 

Project dinner

 

Finally they celebrated the project dinner all together with the attendance of the headmaster of ICS Montezemolo and all the students and teachers participating in the two years of both Roman schools


Saturday 30th March

The farewell

On Saturday afternoon they said goodbye to their Italian friends. It was a very emotional farewell.
